About

AtlasAQ project has been developed to enable access to authenticated and regulated air quality data, analysis and rankings of Indian cities – on a daily as well as historical basis from the government managed Continuous Ambient Air Quality Monitoring Stations (CAAQMS). The Platform has been built in a way that it can be extended to Sensor-based Air Quality Monitoring Networks. The AtlasAQ project, built on the erstwhile NCAPTracker project, was first launched in 2019 and was developed with a goal to enable validated long-term air quality trend analysis of Indian cities which have the CAAQMS network, with specific focus on the “132 NCAP cities”. The “Ranking of NCAP cities” feature of AtlasAQ was developed to enable all interested stakeholders – air quality researchers, communications and media journalists, policy researchers, government agencies and most importantly affected communities & citizens to access and understand long-term air quality trends in Indian cities.

Impact from AtlasAQ has been seen from the several dozen main-stream media stories that have been featuring data and analysis from the AtlasAQ platform. Front-page stories in leading business print publications like MINT have featured data and analysis from this platform. A list of all the stories and reports can be read on the Respirer Reports section.

The AtlasAQ project has been developed with support from Climate-focused Philanthropic funding. The project, in its earlier avatar was known as “NCAPTracker” – developed in collaboration with Climate Communications team ClimateTrends. The project has its roots in the IndiaSpend #Breathe project.

Development of the AtlasAQ platform was done by the engineering team at Respirer. AtlasAQ platform is looking to expand the insights offered from the platform and has started including datasets for LU/LC (Land Use/Land Cover) and Heat Stress Hours for all cities of India. In near future, we are expanding the datasets to include rainfall anomalies and real-time food prices data – to enable better understanding of the impact of air quality, climate change on daily livability parameters.
